#44: Change Like a Mother

Special guest Lucy Collins joins Danielle and José to talk about motherhood and death. They explore the idea that motherhood allows women to be uniquely in touch with death, aging, and change. This experience is full of vulnerability and a confrontation with one’s life experience that cannot be ignored.

Lucy Collins is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. (Yes, they teach philosophy to fashion students.) She primarily teaches ethics, which covers both broad ethical theories as well as specific fashion related issues like counterfeiting, labor issues, and beauty standards. Lucy is also "Mama" to four year old Edward and one year old Martha. She finds motherhood to be the most confounding and extraordinarily fascinating experience in her life. Too bad she can't get enough sleep or find a private moment to actually reflect on it!
